Recommended Reading

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy near the end of his life and asked him to “bring…the books…” indicating that there were some reading material that he wanted to read and study (2 Timothy 4:13). Throughout church history, men and women who love God also love to read. Reading is a discipline every Christian should cultivate.

In addition to one’s normal and daily Bible reading and study, there are scores of volumes written by godly men and women on a variety of subjects. While no substitute for the Bible, and no more authoritative than the Scriptures, other books can give valuable spiritual insight into the Christian life and can be enjoyed by Christians today.

The following is a list of recommended books on several subjects. One general caveat: all human authors are flawed, and therefore all humanly authored books are flawed. While we can glean benefit and edification from a variety of authors, please remember that mentioning a certain book is not necessarily a full out endorsement of its author. Please read with spiritual discernment and a mind trained to think according to the Scriptures.
